Dominic Arena is a proven Telecom, Media & Technology industry Chief Strategy Officer, trusted adviser and Commercial Executive Director with a 28-year career spanning ANZ & Asia Pacific. He is recognised for his Executive, Advisory and Non-Executive Director experience in corporate & portfolio strategy, M&A and business development with telecom, media & satellite operators, Governments & Regulators, and with API, ad-tech and fintech start-ups/scale-ups. He has lived in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok during his 15 years in SE Asia prior to returning to Sydney in 2020 where he currently resides.
Presently Executive Director Strategy, Planning & Commercial at Telstra Group based in Sydney, Dominic centrally leads strategy, commercial, operations and investments across Product & Technology (including Product, IT and Data & AI functions). Dominic is also a Non-Executive Director of Fetch TV (a JV of Telstra and Astro Overseas Holdings – an investment of Usaha Tegas and Malaysia’s sovereign wealth fund, Khazanah).
Prior to Telstra Dominic was Group Chief Strategy & Marketing Officer of Axiata Group - SE Asia’s second largest publicly listed diversified telecom, media, ICT, Fintech, Adtech and Infrastructure group - where he led Group Corporate Strategy, Brand & Marketing, Products & Partnerships and oversaw several digital investments, startups/scale-ups as a member of the Board Audit & Risk Committee of subsidiary Axiata Digital Services. He served as a Director of several other subsidiaries including Dialog, NCell, Robi and Suvitech.
Dominic was formerly Managing Director of strategy consulting firms Value Partners Management Consulting in Singapore and AEC Advisory in Singapore & Thailand, and a Director at KPMG Advisory in Australia leading telecom, media & technology strategy advisory. He holds a Bachelor of Telecom Engineering (Hons.) and Graduate Diploma in Engineering Practice from University of Technology, Sydney, which he attended under Scholarship from Vodafone Australia. He has been a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors since 2008.
